Stone Carving Workshops

Our residents joined Natasha Smith for a series of stone carving workshops leading up to the Newstead Sundials Festival - see the results revealed at the unveiling on Sep 7th!

Natasha Stone CarvingNatasha Smith runs Stone Carving Courses and creates unique hand carved lettering and sculpture in slate and sandstone. Located in the Scottish Borders, 40 miles South of Edinburgh.

In the lead up to the festival three days of workshops took place on our Village Green. With Natasha's guidance residents followed in the footsteps of the stonemasons who lived and worked in Newstead and produced carvings in stone. These creative and individual pieces of craftwork have been put together to create a lasting legacy in the form of a sundial which now takes pride of place on our Village Green.

The finished sundial will be unveiled at the opening of the inaugural Newstead Sundials Festival at 12.00 on Sunday 7th September.
